Dr Martens signs leases for new concept store and head office in Camden

The Dr Martens footwear brand is to open a new concept store and upgrade its existing European headquarters in London’s Camden Town.

A ten-year lease has been agreed with Camden Market owner Market Tech across two floors covering 23,470 square feet of office space in Camden Wharf. Following a new fit out of the office, which will also house the brand’s London showroom, Dr Martens will bring together staff from its three existing offices in Camden Town to the new canal-side location.

Dr Martens has also leased the recently restored and Grade II listed Tack Building within Stables Market which it says will house one of its most innovative stores to date. Created in partnership with music amplification specialist Marshall, the store will include a music space with a curated programme of events, as well as Dr Martens’ first permanent in-store footwear customisation area. In addition, an on-site heritage centre is planned featuring a unique virtual reality experience.

Steve Murray, chief executive of Dr Martens owner Airwair International, said: “It was important to us that our new location gives us the opportunity to stay connected to the people who wear our product and who embrace the diversity and individuality our brand represents. In that sense, Camden Town is truly the perfect choice and we’re delighted to have found such a fantastic location.”

Charles Butler, chief executive of Market Tech, added: “Dr Martens is a British fashion institution that already has strong links with the area. The fact that Dr Martens has chosen to support its ambitious growth plans and pioneer an experiential new retail format in Camden is a strong endorsement of what the area has to offer.”
