Cubitts expands national reach with new Leeds store
Modern spectacle maker Cubitts is to open its third store outside of London in Leeds.
Situated in the city’s Victoria Arcade, the new shop means the company will have 11 stores nationwide.
Tom Broughton, founder and chief executive at Cubitts, said: “We’ve been searching for our perfect site in Leeds since 2016. So five years on, and after a tumultuous two years, it is an honour to be opening our doors.”
To coincide with the opening on 8 November, Cubitts is launching an exclusive micro-collection of three frames that have been inspired by the city’s most revered artists, designers and architects. These will be available to purchase exclusively at the store.
Designed by Alexy Kos and Che Huang of London-based Child Studio, the shop draws influence from early 20th century retail spaces to create a “utilitarian yet elegant, understated” approach to displaying spectacles.
In celebration of the launch, Cubitts has teamed up with independent Leeds brewer Northern Monk to create a Cubitts beer which will be sold online. Leftover grain from the collaboration will be used to create a bespoke pair of spectacles which will be displayed in the Leeds store and featured as a prize in a competition.
In addition, Village Books will be curating a collection of coffee table books, magazines and pamphlets for customers to read in-store, while local ethical roastery North Star Coffee will provide them with complimentary speciality grade coffee.
Broughton added: “Each of our Cubitts stores take influence from their local environment, bringing in elements of art, design, architecture and literature. Our new store in Leeds is no different. We’ve drawn on the rich cultural tapestry of the city over the past century as well as Frank Matcham’s magnificent marbles and mosaics. The new opening gives us the chance to work with some of the city’s most brilliant brands, and hopefully make our contribution to Leeds’ exciting future.”
