Chargeurs completes acquisition of The Cambridge Satchel Company
French textile company Chargeurs has announced that it has completed its acquisition of The Cambridge Satchel Company.
Cambridge Satchel was founded in 2008 by Julie Deane CBE. With its bags stocked in over 150 countries, it currently employs 60 people and has a state-of the art manufacturing facility in Leicester. It also operates its own shops in London, Cambridge and Edinburgh and has collaborated with brands such as Vivienne Westwood, Commes des Garcons and Farrow & Ball over the years.
In a statement, Chargeurs said the acquisition will help it accelerate the expansion of Swaine, its British leather goods company, and improve its operating profitability as it will benefit from Cambridge Satchel’s production base and expertise in marketing and ecommerce.
The move will also provide Cambridge Satchel with “strong potential for premiumisation and international expansion”.
The acquisition is Chargeurs’ fifteenth since 2015.
