Burberry hires Alan Stewart as non-executive director
Luxury brand Burberry has appointed former Tesco chief financial officer Alan Stewart to its board as a non-executive director.
Due to take up his role on 1 September, he is also a non-executive director on the boards of Diageo and Reckitt Benckiser Group.
Stewart held the chief financial officer position at Tesco from 2014 to 2021 and prior to that worked in the same role at Marks & Spencer. Earlier in his career, he was group finance director of WH Smith and chief executive and chief financial officer of Thomas Cook Holdings.
Gerry Murphy, Burberry chair, said: “Alan is a highly experienced chief financial officer and non-executive director of major international public companies. We are delighted that he has accepted our invitation to join the Burberry board.”
The company has also announced that Matthew Key will be retiring as a non-executive director at its AGM in July 2023 following nine years of service.
Murphy added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Matthew for his outstanding service to Burberry. The board and I look forward to his continuing counsel and leadership of the audit committee over the coming months.”
