Burberry first quarter sales boosted by strength in China
Luxury brand Burberry has reported a 3% increase in underlying retail revenue to £478 million in its first quarter.
In the three months to 30 June, comparable sales rose by 4% as strength in mainland China drove improved, mid single-digit percentage growth in the Asia Pacific region. There was also high single-digit percentage growth in its EMEIA region, led by strength in the UK.
The brand continued to grow its online sales and mobile transactions now represent 40% of the sales mix.
Marco Gobbetti, Burberry’s recently appointed chief executive, said: “I am delighted to have started as Burberry CEO. We are pleased with our performance in the first quarter, while mindful of the work still to do. This is a time of great change for Burberry and the wider luxury industry.
