British Fashion Council announces Laura Weir as New CEO

The British Fashion Council (BFC) has announced the appointment of Laura Weir as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 28th April 2025.

Laura will succeed Caroline Rush CBE, who has led the organisation for 15 years and will officially step down in June 2025, after completing the 2024/25 financial year.

Laura Weir, a recognised leader in the global fashion industry, brings extensive experience in British design, retail, and editorial leadership to her new role. She will be responsible for overseeing the BFC’s operations, collaborating with designers, industry partners, and government bodies to advance the organisation’s mission of championing British fashion and nurturing creative talent.

David Pemsel, Chair of the BFC, welcomed Laura’s appointment, saying, “Laura has worked alongside established and emerging designers, creative talent, industry leaders, and press throughout her career. Her deep understanding of the complexities of the fashion ecosystem and strategic foresight will guide the BFC into its next chapter, driving transformation and growth both domestically and globally.”

Expressing her excitement, Laura Weir said, “I am honoured to lead the BFC at this pivotal time for British fashion. I look forward to championing culture and creativity to catalyse growth and innovation for our industry while supporting both emerging and established designers. Together, we will strengthen the pipeline of British creative talent and address critical challenges such as environmental responsibility and representation.”

In her new role, Laura will focus on the BFC’s strategic pillars: responsible growth through community advocacy and talent development, innovation via the Institute of Positive Fashion, and global amplification through high-profile platforms such as London Fashion Week and The Fashion Awards. She will also work to strengthen partnerships with industry stakeholders and government to ensure the sector’s resilience and its significant contribution to the British economy.

The BFC expressed its gratitude to Caroline Rush for her transformative leadership over the past 15 years, highlighting her contributions to raising the profile of British fashion on the global stage. Caroline will remain with the organisation until June to ensure a smooth transition of leadership.

Laura Weir’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the BFC as it continues to champion creativity and innovation in British fashion.
