Asos hires first chief growth officer
Online fashion retailer Asos has appointed Robert Birge to the newly created role of chief growth officer.
Due to join the business on 3 December, Birge will be responsible for driving profitable growth and integrating the company’s marketing efforts with strategic planning, analytics and the customer experience. He will report to Asos chief executive Nick Beighton and will lead a marketing function comprised of 170 people and a 1200 strong customer care team.
Birge has recently served as an executive and adviser for a number of consumer ecommerce, content and ad tech startups including Blink Health and Lola. Prior to that, he worked in chief marketing officer roles at companies such as Kayak and IMG.
Beighton said: “Robert’s proven track record in delivering high impact marketing programmes for fast-growing ecommerce businesses means he is an ideal appointment for this new role. And, with more than half of our revenue coming from international markets, his global experience will help fuel our ability to take advantage of the growth opportunities ahead of us.”
Asos is also recruiting for three other executives to oversee the company’s product, HR and strategy functions as it looks to strengthen the operational capabilities of its senior management team.
