ASOS celebrates ‘exceptional’ UK growth
Online fashion retailer ASOS saw a 30% uplift in retail sales in the run-up to Christmas after putting in an “exceptional” performance in the UK despite what it described as a challenging market.
In the four months to 31 December, retail sales climbed to £790.4 million from £605.7 million in the same period in the previous year. In the UK there was an uplift of 23% while retail sales in the retailer’s US, EU and Rest of the World businesses rose by 24%, 42% and 34% respectively.
ASOS grew its number of active customers by 19% in the four months while average basket value increased by 3%.
Nick Beighton, ASOS chief executive, said: “We achieved an exceptional performance in the UK, whilst momentum in international sales continued. We acquired 2.6 million active customers year-on-year and saw encouraging movements across all key customer KPIs.”
During the period, ASOS enhanced its customer proposition in the UK with the launch of Try Before You Buy and ASOS Instant, its same day delivery service.
Looking ahead, Beighton said: “Following this strong start to the year, we remain confident in our full year guidance and delivery of our planned investments in infrastructure to support our global ambitions.”
