Dixons Carphone enjoys strong Christmas electrical sales

Dixons Carphone has said it increased its sales and customer satisfaction levels in its peak Christmas trading period.

UK and Ireland like-for-like electrical sales rose by 2% in the ten weeks to 4 January after the retailer benefited from a 75% uplift in sales of 65”+ televisions. Shark vacuums and Dyson health and beauty products were also very popular. The company said new initiatives and improvements in product availability and delivery led to an increase in customer satisfaction levels.

However, UK and Ireland mobile sales fell by 9% in the period although the performance was in line with expectations.

Alex Baldock, Dixon Carphone group chief executive, said: “We’ve had a good peak in a weak UK market and we’re on track to deliver what we promised for this year, and with our longer-term transformation.

“We broke records on wearables like Fitbit and Apple Airpods, while gamers couldn’t get enough of the Nintendo Switch. Our new Gaming Battlegrounds showed the exciting potential of more enticing, immersive store experiences and drove strong sales and share gains.”

Meanwhile, international revenue climbed by 3% following a 6% sales uplift in Greece and a 3% increase in the retailer’s Nordic region.
