Dixons Carphone appoints group director of sustainability and ESG
Dixons Carphone, the owner of Currys PC World and Carphone Warehouse, has appointed Moira Thomas to the new role of group director of sustainability and ESG.
Thomas previously worked with the John Lewis Partnership where she spent more than 15 years in a number of corporate social responsibility roles. In her most recent position, she was responsible for leading a team that was responsible for protecting and increasing the value of the business through ethical and sustainable business practice.
At Dixons Carphone, she will report to executive committee member Assad Malic who is group director of strategy and corporate affairs.
With a track record in managing large scale ESG programmes and extensive experience across carbon, property, waste, packaging, recycling and communities, Thomas will build on and develop Dixons Carphone’s existing sustainability commitments, including its pledge to achieve Net Zero by 2040. She will also lead its transition to electric vehicles across its delivery fleet and the strategic direction of its partnership with Digital Access For All, through which Dixons Carphone has pledged £1 million to help support disadvantaged pupils, parents and teachers.
Malic said: “The global pandemic continues to highlight the crucial role amazing technology plays in people’s lives, and we’re helping more people than ever benefit from it. Our approach ensures we do this in a way that is sustainable – from how we interact with our customers and support our communities, through to how we power our properties and source, transport, repair, recycle, reuse or repackage the products we sell. With her experience and expertise, Moira will play a critical role in elevating our ESG strategy across the group.”
