Currys PC World launches new flexible and transparent mobile offering
Currys PC World has launched a new mobile offering that allows customers to create their own packages of handsets, data and minutes. They can also include accessories and spread the cost by adding them to their monthly bill.
The move follows research by the retailer that found that 93% of its customers wanted to see a mobile offering that gave them greater value, package flexibility and transparency of cost. The issue that customers seemed most concerned about was the inflexibility of contract lengths.
Ed Connolly, chief commercial officer at Dixons Carphone, said: “We’re excited to bring our new mobile offer to market, with flexible plans and transparent pricing, giving customers great value when it comes to purchasing mobile devices and plans.
“While our habits and needs change, often mobile contracts don’t, with the majority of consumers locked into lengthy and expensive agreements. With customers holding onto their devices for longer, we know that finding the right handset and SIM can be a real struggle.
“We’ve really listened to our customers and have also applied many learnings from the last 12 months. The result being a more agile and nimble mobile offering that truly reflects how people want to phone-shop in today’s post-pandemic world – a flexible, transparent, and great value offering.”
The retailer said the separate pricing element of the package means that customers will always know what they are paying for when it comes to handsets and connectivity. In addition, they can set their monthly budget based on plan length, handset repayments and the amount they paid upfront.
Two years in the making, the offering will be underpinned by deals from Currys PC World’s exclusive multiyear partnership with Vodafone, ongoing partnership with Virgin Media, and deals from Dixons Carphone’s own mobile virtual network operator, iD Mobile powered by Three.
It has been launched on Currys’ website today as part of parent company Dixons Carphone’s plan to move the Currys PC World, Carphone Warehouse, Team Knowhow and Dixons Carphone brands to Currys in the UK. This will be followed by a roll-out to stores in early 2022.
