Currys PC World launches ‘Giftologist’ social Christmas campaign
Currys PC World has launched a new Christmas social campaign called Giftologist as it looks to target shoppers who go online for gift inspiration.
The social activity forms part of the retailer’s main Christmas campaign, Get It Right.
Based on the insight that buying technology gifts can be confusing as a result of how quickly technological change can happen, Currys PC World is aiming to provide gift buyers with the expertise and guidance needed to ‘get it right’ this Christmas.
The campaign involves the Giftologist, an eccentric “boffin” scientist type, bringing the expertise and knowledge of instore staff direct to consumers through social media.
Launched on Facebook, the campaign consists of five call to action animations urging customers to post their gift queries online, as well as a Facebook Live panel in which the Giftologist answers questions live from the public.
The Giftologist will then visit five regional stores across the UK where he will deliver over 100 personalised video messages for consumers who have posted their gift queries online.
In the final run-up to Christmas, there will be a further six videos.
Angela Bertram, senior social media manager at Currys PC World owner Dixons Carphone, said: “We know our customers are looking for guidance when it comes to what to buy their loved ones at Christmas time. We have some brilliant in-store teams who have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to finding the right tech match for shoppers, and we wanted to bring this to life online in an innovative and amusing way. Our Giftologist has already proved popular with customers and we’re now looking forward to taking him on his regional tour of the UK.”
