Mild weather impacts John Lewis sales

Sales at John Lewis dropped by 4.7% year-on-year last week to £86.7 million as trading was impacted by unseasonably mild weather.

Fashion sales were down 6.9% overall but sales of beauty, wellbeing and leisure products grew by 0.5%. There were also uplifts in sales of jewellery, lingerie and own-brand womenswear.

Home sales were down 6.6% on the same week last year although the lighting category performed well with sales up 5% due to a promotion and the price matching of a competitor’s promotion.

Meanwhile, electrical and home technology sales edged down 0.5% despite an increase in sales of communications technology products such as smartphones, computers and iPads.
