John Lewis sales up 8.8% in first full week of clearance sale

Sales at John Lewis climbed by 8.8% year-on-year last week as the department store chain held the first full week of its clearance sale.
Electrical and home technology sales were up 12.4% as trade was boosted by a 34% uplift in sales of Apple products.
Home also had a good week with sales up 8.1%. The outdoor living category performed particularly well with sales rising by 38.4%.
Meanwhile, fashion sales saw an increase of 6.9% as the warm weather continued to boost sales. The retailer said its Loved and Found range put in a strong performance with a 46.3% uplift.
Beauty, wellbeing and leisure sales were up 12.5% driven by strong sales across both beauty and sport ranges which were up 12.8% and 18.6% respectively.
