John Lewis sales up 4.8% last week
John Lewis & Partners increased its sales by 4.8% year-on-year last week as the department store benefited from customers taking advantage of its Easter promotions.
Fashion sales climbed by 10.4% after new season ranges encouraged shoppers to buy items for the warmer weather and Easter getaways. Menswear sales were up 10.7% due to seasonal promotions on a selection of brands.
Home sales increased by 6.9% in the week. Some of the best performing categories included furniture and flooring, where sales rose by 9% as customers shopped for outdoor living products. Sales in the department store’s cookshop category were up 16.2%.
Electrical and home technology sales fell by 2.4% although sales of TVs climbed by 7% on the same week last year. Sales in the small electrical category were also strong with an uplift of 4.5%.
