John Lewis sales up 4.1% last week

Sales at John Lewis rose by 4.1% year-on-year last week as the retailer continued to benefit from its clearance sale.

Fashion sales increased by 7.6% after trade was boosted by a 12% uplift in menswear sales. Sales in the category were driven by strong sales of men’s formal blazers and smart jackets, which were up 85% compared to the same week last year.

However, home sales were down 0.9% despite the week’s warm weather boosting sales in the outdoor living category. Picnic products and low tog duvets were also popular with customers.

Electrical and home technology sales were up 5.8% as the retailer saw a 108% increase in sales of  indoor and handheld fans. Android sales were also up due to the launch of  a new product.
