John Lewis sales up 3.7% in final week of trading year

Sales at John Lewis rose by 3.7% year-on-year in the week to 28 January, the final week of its trading year.

All three buying areas posted increases.

Fashion sales climbed by 5.5% as the new season started to make an impact with womenswear sales up 11.4% and menswear sales edging up 3.8%.

Home sales rose by 1.9% driven by strong performances in the textiles, carpets and furniture categories.

Electricals and home technology sales increased by 4.3% as the communication technology category was boosted by the popularity of Apple and Microsoft products.
