John Lewis sales up 24.1% last week
Sales at the John Lewis department store chain rose by 24.1% year-on-year last week as the retailer benefited from the combination of an earlier Easter this year, colder weather driving footfall into its shops, and an increased range of promotions.
Electrical and home technology sales climbed by 32.4% with both the electrical products and communications technology categories recording very strong sales.
Home sales increased by 23.1% as the gifts, cook and dine category produced one of the best increases with a 41.5% uplift on the same week last year. The retailer also experienced buoyant sales in the bath and bedding products, lighting, and living and dining furniture categories.
Meanwhile, fashion sales were up 17.7% with the beauty, wellbeing and leisure category seeing the biggest increase with sales up 26.3%. The retailer said all clothing categories experienced strong sales growth due to the cold weather driving sales of warm clothing and the price matching competitor promotions.
