John Lewis sales up 23.1% last week

The John Lewis & Partners department store saw its total sales climb by 23.1% on the same week last year as the retailer benefited from the success of a homewares and furniture promotional event and its first My John Lewis Beauty Weekend.

Home sales surged by 68.4% in what was the retailer’s biggest week so far this year for online home sales. Furniture and flooring sales increased by 71.3% while sales in the textiles and home accessories category rose by 80.1%. In addition, sales in first full week of the retailer’s Christmas shop were up 14% on the corresponding week last year.

While fashion sales climbed by 8.8%, beauty, wellbeing and leisure sales saw a 24.9% uplift which was driven by a combination of the My John Lewis Beauty Weekend and the price matching of a competitor’s beauty promotions.

Meanwhile, electrical and home technology sales were up 4.6% in the week. This included a 170% uplift in sales of laundry electrical products such as dryers, which John Lewis attributed to the ongoing wet weather across the UK.
