John Lewis sales up 2.3% last week

The John Lewis department store chain increased its sales by 2.3% year-on-year last week.
Of the three main trading areas, fashion saw the best growth with sales up 3.9%. The casualwear category performed particularly well while beauty, wellbeing and leisure also had a strong week.
Electrical and home technology sales rose by 3.8% boosted by a 36.4% uplift in the mobile and photo category where trade was driven by new launches. Vision sales increased by 7.9%.
Home sales were down 0.1% year-on-year although the cooking and dining category had a good week, with sales rising by 4.2%. Textiles and carpets also saw growth, with bed linen sales up 9.4%.
