John Lewis sales up 11.7% last week

John Lewis increased its sales by 11.7% year-on-year last week as the retailer enjoyed strong trading in the run-up to Easter.
Fashion sales climbed by 10.3% with trade boosted by a 41% uplift in sales of women’s casualwear. Menswear also saw double digit growth with sales up 14.4%.
Home sales rose by 11.1% driven by a 260.9% jump in sales of seasonal gift food as customers prepared for Easter. The cooking and dining category also saw growth in the week with an uplift of 15.7%.
Meanwhile, electricals and home technology sales climbed by 15.2%. The communication technology category saw growth of 25.5% as sales of mobile phones and photography rose by 39.1%, and tablets and computers by 21.9%.
