John Lewis sales up 11.2% in first full week of its clearance sale

Sales at the John Lewis department store chain rose by 11.2% year-on-year last week.
In what was the retailer’s first full week of its clearance sale, fashion sales were up 20.4% after sales in the menswear category climbed by 34.3% and sales in the womenswear and women’s accessories categories rose by 19.7% and 24.3% respectively.
Home sales increased by 1.7% in the week as trading was boosted by strong performances in the gift, cook and dine category. The cookshop and tabletop category also had a good week due to the popularity of “special buy” lines.
Sales in electrical and home technology climbed by 11.7% after trading was boosted by buoyant sales in the communications technology and television categories.
