DEPARTMENT STORE NEWS

John Lewis sales up 1.8% last week

The John Lewis & Partners department store chain increased its sales by 1.8% last week compared to the corresponding period in 2017.

Fashion sales climbed by 5.6% as the retailer continued to see strong sales within its own brand womenswear category where sales rose by 9.6%. John Lewis & Partners Womenswear put in a particularly good performance in the week.

Electrical and home technology sales were up 4.1% after John Lewis benefited from the popularity of new Apple devices. The gaming category also had a good week driven by new product launches.

Meanwhile, home sales were down 5.4% overall despite an 8% uplift in sales in the retailer’s own brand House range. Its recently launched Find, Keep, Give gifting collection also performed well.
