John Lewis sales up 1.7% last week
Sales at the John Lewis department store chain increased by 1.7% year-on-year last week after the retailer enjoyed a strong sales uplift in its electricals and home technology department.
The department grew its sales by 9.1% with trade largely driven by buoyant sales within audio and connected home categories. The vision and small electricals categories also performed well.
Fashion sales were up 2.1% after trade was boosted by a 5.4% uplift in the womenswear category. The cold weather clothing category was a standout performer with sales 11% ahead of the same time last year. Women’s accessories also had a good week with sales growing by 4.4%.
Meanwhile, home sales were down 6.3% despite strong performances in the upholstery and bedroom furniture categories.
