John Lewis sales up 1.3% last week

Sales at John Lewis rose by 1.3% year-on-year last week as the department store continued its clearance sale.

Fashion sales climbed by 6.2%  after sales in the menswear and womenswear accessory categories increased by 9.8% and 6.6% respectively..

Home sales edged up 0.5% as textiles and home accessory sales rose by 2.3% on the same period last year. Gift food sales were up 11.4% in the week.

Meanwhile, electrical and home technology sales were down 3.2%, despite communications technology sales increasing by 4.7%. The personal category performed particularly well with sales climbing by 50%. The uplift was driven by the launch of the Dyson Airwrap Complete.
