John Lewis sales up 1.3% last week

Sales at John Lewis edged up 1.3% year-on-year last week although fashion sales were down after higher temperatures last year drove warm weather clothing sales in 2016.

Electrical and home technology sales rose by 3.3% as the mobile and photography category continued its strong performance with sales up 47.4%. Sales of GoPro’s were particularly buoyant while an increase vision sales was driven higher-end products.

Home sales climbed by 5.3% as trade was boosted by an 18.1% uplift in the furniture category. Sales in the cookshop and cutlery categories were also strong with sales rising by 5.9% and 4.4% respectively. Lighting sales increased by 9.1%.

Fashion sales declined by 2.8% overall although and women’s formal wear had a good week with sales up 12.8%.
