John Lewis sales up 0.7% last week

The John Lewis department store chain has reported a 0.7% year-on-year uplift in sales for last week.

Fashion sales rose by 4.5% as the womenswear category had a particularly good week with sales up 7.4% on the corresponding week last year. This was driven by the success of the retailer’s own brand ranges where sales were up 12% overall. Sales of Kin items were very strong with sales rising by 49%.

Electrical and home technology sales increased by 4.9% as the retailer enjoyed a strong week in the small electricals category due to the popularity of fans and air purifiers in the hot weather. Mobile phones, photo and wearable tech products also performed well.

Home sales were down 6.3% despite a 30% uplift in sales of hydration products and a 13% increase in sales of summer party items.
