John Lewis sales topped £100 million last week
John Lewis saw its sales top £100 million for the first time this year last week. The retailer achieved sales of £102.8 million which as an increase of 7.2% year-on-year.
Electricals and home technology performed particularly well, with sales up 12.9%. The growth was driven by strong sales of Apple products as well as a free next day delivery promotion that proved popular with customers.
Home sales rose by of 5.5% as trade was boosted by Halloween items. In addition, it was a record week for the retailer’s collaboration with the West Elm furniture brand.
Fashion sales saw an increase of 4% on the year as the new John Lewis shops in Leeds and Chelmsford drove strong results in the category. Denim Wardrobe by Trilogy launched at the retailer’s Bluewater shop while the Cribbs Causeway store introduced new Marc Jacobs, Urban Decay, Jo Malone and La Mer counters to its revamped beauty hall.
