John Lewis sales impacted by warmer weather last week

Sales at John Lewis fell by 4.6% year-on-year last week to £86.4 million as trading at the department store chain was impacted by unseasonably warm weather.

Fashion sales dropped by 5.1% overall but the beauty category performed well with sales up 4.3%.

Home sales were down 2% despite a 13.9% uplift in sales of fitted furniture and a 6% rise in sales of bathroom products. Halloween products were also up on last year.

Electrical and home technology sales were down 6.7% although Apple products put in a strong performance with sales of Apple watches and Macbook Airs both up significantly on last year. In addition, the small electricals category was boosted by an uplift in sales of coffee machines.
