John Lewis sales down 8.8% last week

The John Lewis & Partners department store saw its sales decline by 8.8% year-on-year last week after trading figures were impacted by the later fall of Mother’s Day and Easter this year.

Fashion sales dropped by 10.1% although the warm weather clothing and menswear categories achieved strong sales uplifts due to new brand launches.

Home sales were down 10.7% despite the weather influencing outdoor living category sales where there was an increase of 8%.

Meanwhile, electrical and home technology sales fell by 6.3% in the week which also saw the retailer launch its own brand range of hair dryers, hair straighteners and men’s grooming products.
