John Lewis sales down 3.7% last week

Department store chain John Lewis saw its sales decline by 3.7% to £102 million last week.

Home sales were down 7% in the week despite a strong performance in the Halloween products category.

Electrical and home technology sales fell by 8.4% although the retailer said its own brand audio products had a good week with the Sonos brand also performing well. Within the vision category, LG and Sony products helped drive a sales uplift of 1.3% and mobile had a particularly strong week driven by the launch of the iPhone X.

Meanwhile, fashion sales climbed by 4.5% as the beauty, wellbeing and leisure category achieved double digit growth driven by the price matching of a competitor’s promotion.
