Sales at the John Lewis department store chain were down 2% year-on-year last week as the later fall of Valentine’s Day this year caused a shift in sales.
Sales in the home category edged up 0.5% with furniture items having a particularly strong week. Lighting, bedding, towels and mattresses also achieved percentage increases on the same week last year.
Fashion sales dropped by 2.7% although womenswear sales rose by 3.7%.
Electricals and home technology sales were down 2.9%. Communication technology, however, continued its strong performance, with the area seeing an uplift of 5.7%.
