John Lewis sales down 2.7% last week

The John Lewis department store saw its sales fall by 2.7 % year-on-year last week.

Electrical and home technology sales dropped by 6.6% compared to the same week last year when the retailer enjoyed strong sales of fans and air purifiers due to the hot weather.

Home sales were also down, falling by 7.1%. However, the rugs, mirrors and art categories all performed well with respective uplifts of 17%, 4% and 6%.

Meanwhile, fashion sales were up 5.8% in the week. Womenswear sales increased by 21.7% as customers began buying items for the new autumn/winter season.  Sales of women’s accessories were also strong, rising by 8.3%.
