John Lewis sales down 12.4% last week

John Lewis has confirmed that its total sales were down 12.4% year-on-year last week after the warmer weather had an impact on the sale of new season products.

Fashion sales dropped by 12.3%, although beauty sales edged up 0.7% due to the retailer price matching a competitor’s promotion.

Electrical and home technology sales fell by 11.4% but customer demand for new communications technology product launches got stronger over the weekend.

Meanwhile, home sales were down 13.4% in the week despite the popularity of the retailer’s own brand House range due to customers shoppping  for items for the new university term.
