John Lewis sales down 0.4% last week

Sales at John Lewis edged down 0.4% year-on-year to £137.9 million last week as trading was impacted by snow in some parts of the country.

Nevertheless, the retailer said its clearance sale got off to a good start.

Fashion sales were up 8.4% as the womenswear category achieved a record sales week. Women’s accessories also performed well.

Home sales were down 4.5% on last year, despite strong performances in the upholstery and cook and dine categories.

Meanwhile, electricals and home technology sales fell by 5.4% in the week.
