John Lewis & Partners weekly sales down 5.5%

The John Lewis & Partners department store chain saw its sales decline by 5.5% year-on-year last week.

Fashion sales were down 4.9% although there was a 3% sales uplift in the womenswear, beauty, wellbeing and leisure categories as the retailer price matched a competitor event.

Home sales dropped by 9.1% despite the retailer’s own brand House range having its biggest sales week this year as students bought homeware items for their return to university.

Meanwhile, electrical and home technology sales were down 3.5% although sales in the large electricals category were up 1.5%.
