John Lewis & Partners to merge home improvement businesses

The John Lewis & Partners department store chain is to merge its two home improvement services businesses.

The retailer will bring together its Home Solutions and Opun businesses to enable it to offer customers an end-to-end home improvement service, which will include inspiration, design, project management and execution.

Home Solutions allows customers to source and book tradespeople for a range of services. Currently operating within JLP Ventures, the business is steadily rolling out across the country and is about to expand its coverage to Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex and Kent in the coming weeks.

Acquired by John Lewis in 2018, Opun manages large scale home improvement projects and has been operating as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

Under the new plans, both businesses will operate within the services directorate of John Lewis & Partners.

Sean Allam, director of services at John Lewis & Partners, said: “Last year’s acquisition of Opun demonstrated our ambition in the home services market and today’s announcement marks a critical next step as we look to strengthen and grow our services business. Bringing the teams together is an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively, share knowledge and collectively learn in the fast-paced home improvement market and create opportunities for growth.”
