John Lewis gives update on store reopenings

In an update on the reopening of its department stores today, John Lewis has said glassware has been by far the most popular purchase with returning shoppers as they prepare to host friends and families once again.

In the first two hours of trading this morning, top selling items included the retailer’s ANYDAY range of decanters, tumblers and highball glasses as well as gift bags, champagne and facial cleansers. Other items flying off the shelves included buttons, knitting wool, plates and mugs.

Pippa Wicks, executive director of John Lewis, said: “It was fantastic to welcome customers back into our shops again today and to see so many people excited to be out and about again. Our expert Partners have been on hand to deliver much longed-for services and are busy giving customers the inspiration they need for life after lockdown.  We’ve also launched a new own brand range called ANYDAY today which offers the same style and quality that customers know from John Lewis, at prices they wouldn’t expect.”

The retailer has resumed in-store click and collect services in all John Lewis shops, although pick-up locations have been operating throughout lockdown at Waitrose, Co-op and Booths stores

The John Lewis Glasgow shop will reopen on 26 April and the retailer’s newly refurbished Edinburgh shop will welcome customers on 14 May subject to Government guidance.
