John Lewis ends final week of clearance with sales up 3.7%

Sales at the John Lewis department store chain climbed by 3.7% last week which was the final week of its clearance sale.
The strongest performing category was electricals and home technology with a 6.9% uplift. Trade was boosted by the popularity of audio and smart home products.
Home sales grew by 3.8% as the clearance sale continued to drive trade. Sales of ‘special buy’ products were significantly up, as were sales of home accessories, gifts and furniture.
Fashion sales were down 0.1% year-on-year. Beauty, wellbeing and leisure were the best performers within the category with sales rising by 5.6%.
