Debenhams launches new local food company initiative

Debenhams is teaming up with independent local food companies as part of a new pilot scheme in Manchester and London.

The scheme is being tested in the department store chain’s central Manchester, Trafford and Oxford Street stores with the food businesses being offered space within the shops.

Sam Shutt, head of external food at Debenhams, said: “Debenhams food offering serves millions of customers that visit our 175 plus UK and ROI department stores each year. Our customers know that when they walk through the doors they will find a variety of food options and we want to support local businesses that bring something new to our dining experiences – from locally produced gin to cupcakes.”

Recent food and drink pop-ups have included contemporary style gin makers Manchester Gin, cupcake maker Alex’s Bakery and champagne ad wine specialist Frizzenti. Other companies taking space at the store include ice cream roll maker Zizo’s Gelato, bubble waffle producer Waffle Island and premium limoncello company Pococello.

Debenhams said it has seen an 11% uplift in food sales following the addition of concessions including Franco Manca, Creams and The Real Greek. The food division operates 65 concessions and 151 owned and operated restaurants.
